Goatheads
(or Puncturevine)
Goatheads (Tribulus Terrestris) is an invasive noxious weed that originated in Eurasia. A goathead vine can begin forming flowers within 15 to 25 days from germination. Within 6 weeks, goatheads appear with each consisting of five razor sharp thorns which hold two to four seeds. Left unchecked, the plant can grow 10+ feet in diameter and drop hundreds of thorns. Goatheads are a tough adversary.
Our Priorities
Schools
Our goal is all kids can ride a bike to school without any flat tires. Wenatchee and Eastmont Public Schools’ maintenance teams are working to keep all school grounds goathead free. Volunteer Warriors are needed to expand goathead free zones in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The Riverfront Trail and Bicycle Lanes
Goatheads growing adjacent to the riverfront trail and bike lanes instantly turn fun rides into flat tires. Our goal is zero goatheads and no flat tires.
Neighborhoods
Beating goatheads requires eliminating them street-by-street, neighborhood-by-neighborhood. This will take tough, committed Warriors willing to scout their street, block or neighborhood every three weeks. Lower income Wenatchee neighborhoods, where infestations are usually highest, are a priority. Eliminate goatheads in these neighborhoods and we can win anywhere!
